COVID-19: Meeting with Minister & Industry Update

01 May 2020

Taking further action for our events sector

Further to our update on Wednesday, the NZEA is pleased to say that we have had a positive first meeting with the Minister for Economic Development Hon Phil Twyford yesterday (also joined by EVANZ and CINZ representatives). Minister Twyford acknowledged that our sector is among the hardest hit by the COVID-19 situation. He also recognised that the events sector is not covered by any one minister's portfolio so has offered to take on that role. This is a significant boon for our sector to, at long last, have a dedicated minister to champion our industry.

Minister Twyford has invited us to work with him over the coming month to create a sector 'survival strategy'. On this note, we are fine tuning our strategy which we’ll submit to the sector early next week. We'd appreciate your prompt feedback on this document as we intend to submit it to government by the end of next week, given the urgency our sector is facing.

We’ll be in touch.

Kia kaha.

Warm regards,

Ségolène de Fontenay
